Brochure Folding Types

There are several folding options available today so you can make your full color brochures stand out. You may use any of the folding types listed below to make the perfect marketing material your company aims for. Be sure to keep these folding types in mind when designing your full color brochures as the panels will need to be designed accordingly. As a matter of fact, your folding choice should be made before you design your brochures.

Brochures Folding Types

Tri-fold

Also called letterfold, this folding type is the most common of all. It means that the brochures are folded in three equal sections. Since the tri-fold brochures are printed on both sides, this means you actually will have 6 panels (or pages) to display your company information. The top panel is usually designed with high quality full color images to attract your target audience into reading the brochure's material. The last bottom panel is typically intended for an ad or significant offer.

Half-fold

Also called book fold, this type of fold consists of folding the brochures in half, creating two equal sections. Since full color brochures are printed on both sides, this means you actually have 4 panels (or pages) to display your business information. The top panel is usually designed to present your company to its prospects, while the back panel typically provides your company information for those interested in contacting you. The middle panels are used for content.

Z-fold

Also called a fan or zig zag fold, this folding type consists of folding full color brochures in a z shape, meaning that the z-fold brochure is folded twice but the panels do not open into one another. Since full color brochures are printed on both sides, this means you have 6 panels (or pages) to display your information to prospects.

Double-parallel fold

This folding type consists of folding your full color brochures in half and then, once again, in half. Since full color brochures are printed on both sides, you get to work with 8 panels (or pages) to provide the intended information to recipients. Typically, the front and back are used for company information while the inside is used for the brochure's content.

Right-angle half-fold

Also called a French fold, this folding type consists of folding your full color brochures in half, horizontally, and then, once again, in half, but this time, vertically. Since full color brochures are printed on both sides of the paper, you get 8 panels (or pages) to work with while providing end users with the desired information. The front four panels will be grouped together, while the four back panels will form another section of the brochure. Typically, this printing folding option is used for posters or greeting cards.
