Product Options
Frequently asked questions in this categoryStock products are products that:
- Are never customized; they are taken off the shelf, packed, and shipped
- Ship within 48 hours
Examples of stock products include stamps with a pre-defined message, plain envelopes, check binders, and real estate folders.
Even when an item is pre-printed, such as a real estate folder, it is still considered a stock product if it is not customized.
Pre-set products are:
- Usually pre-printed. Some products may also be plain, such as envelopes without any printing.
- Crash-printed or customized with your information.
- Restricted to certain print areas, ink colors, font choices, and in some cases, layout options.
- Referenced by distinct item numbers rather than general product names such as "notepads."
- Available with an online preview during checkout.
- Eligible for a proof at no charge. Proofs are less commonly requested because an online preview is available. If requested, the proof will show only the personalized portion.
- Eligible for rush service on checks and some other products on a case-by-case basis, typically with a 1–2 business day turnaround.
Because these products are crash-printed, the printing is applied using pressure. For example, a triplicate product printed in blue ink may be blue on the top copy but black on the second and third copies. Custom products, on the other hand, may be printed in blue on all three copies.
Logo Choices
Most pre-set products offer a choice of a custom logo or one of our pre-designed logos.
For more information on submitting a custom logo or creating a custom imprint, review our logo requirements and artwork guidelines.
Font Choices
Most pre-set products offer a selection of fonts. Not all fonts are available on every product, so the best way to see the available options is to add the product to your cart and begin checkout.
If you require a font that is not offered, we may be able to create a custom imprint. A custom imprint is an image created by our art department using the requested font.
Extra Lines of Print
Some pre-set products allow you to ADD information. Existing information cannot be REMOVED or ALTERED because these products are pre-printed.
When additional lines are available, they may be placed in different areas depending on the product. Extra lines are commonly used for terms, itemization, or additional information about products and services.
The additional charge applies to the complete block of text rather than to each individual line.
Changes and Aterations
Existing information cannot be removed or altered on pre-set products because they are pre-printed.
Envelopes may not be pre-printed, but they are still limited to specific print areas or layouts that cannot always be changed.
Many products are also available through our custom printing department and can be quoted separately. This allows for a much wider range of design and printing options.
Layouts
Some pre-set products offer a choice of layouts. Layouts are generally designed for specific placement needs.
If none of the available layouts meets your requirements, a custom product may be better suited to your needs.
Ink Colors
Pre-set products may be personalized in one, two, and sometimes three ink colors. Common choices include black, blue, and red, although other colors may be available depending on the product.
When two ink colors are available, the first color is often used for the company name or logo and the second for the remaining text.
Specific printing instructions can be provided during checkout in the "Additional Instructions" section.
Proofs
Proofs can be requested during checkout.
They are less commonly requested for products using plain text because the online checkout preview generally provides a clear representation of the personalized portion.
Online Preview
The online preview is a graphic tool that provides a representation of the ordered product, but it is not intended to be an exact production proof.
Each order is reviewed by our printing experts before production, so minor corrections may be made to punctuation, typographical errors, or uploaded artwork when appropriate.
If clarification is required, our printing team will contact you before proceeding.
Choosing the right format for custom carbonless business forms is important. The best format depends on how you plan to use them.
Manual business forms are designed to be written on by hand.
Computer business forms are designed to be printed using compatible software and a printer.
Manual Business Forms - Formats
Glued-Edge Forms
Individual multipart form sets are glued together along one edge. Each set can be separated and used individually, making this format a simple choice for forms that do not need to be bound into books.
Snapset Forms
Multipart form sets are joined together and include a perforated stub along the top. The stub helps hold the copies together and can be detached after the form is completed.
Wrap-Around Books
Forms are bound into books with a wrap-around cover. The cover can be placed beneath the form being written on to help prevent information from transferring onto the unused sets below.
Snapset Forms with Claim Check or Tag
These forms use a snapset-style perforated stub and include an additional detachable claim check, receipt, or tag at the bottom of the form.
Register Forms
Multipart forms are designed with holes near the top so they can be used in a compatible forms register or writing machine. The register helps align and hold the form in position while it is being completed.
Wrap-Around Books with Double Stub
These forms are bound into wrap-around books and include detachable perforated sections at both the top and bottom of the form. This format is useful when additional stubs, receipts, or recordkeeping sections are needed.
Computer Business Forms - Formats
Laser Forms
Loose multipart forms designed for use with compatible laser or inkjet printers. They do not have tractor-feed holes along the sides and are generally fed through the printer as individual sheets.
Continuous Forms
Continuous multipart forms have tractor-feed holes along both sides and are designed for use with compatible dot matrix or impact printers. The forms feed continuously through the printer rather than as individual sheets.
Custom products, sometimes referred to as products printed with your own design, are created from scratch based on artwork provided by you or prepared by our graphic department.
Unlike pre-set products, which are already printed and limited to specific customization areas, custom products are produced specifically for your order. This gives you much greater control over the overall design, layout, and printing.
Custom products:
- Are printed from scratch using your artwork or a design created by our graphic department
- Can be printed using one, two, or three PMS spot colors, or infull color using CMYK
- Offer extensive design flexibility, with restrictions generally limited only by the product or printing process itself
- Require a quote so the product specifications and available options can be confirmed
- May include options such as numbering, back printing, bleeds, perforations, and plate changes
- Require artwork or a rough draft to be submitted with the order
- Include a proof of the complete product on new orders and reorders with changes
- Are eligible for rush production
Because custom products are printed specifically for your order, each sheet or piece is printed and then finished, padded, bound, or assembled as required.
For example, a three-part carbonless form printed in blue ink can be printed in blue on all three copies. This differs from some pre-set products, where the top copy may be printed in blue while the information on the remaining copies is transferred in black through pressure.
Spot-color printing is generally used when a design requires one, two, or three specific ink colors. Each ink color is mixed and printed separately.
Full-color printing uses CMYK process printing and is better suited for artwork containing photographs, gradients, multiple colors, or complex graphics.
Not every product supports every printing method. Some products have production restrictions that may limit the number of colors, available bleeds, binding methods, or other options.
Custom products offer significantly more flexibility than pre-set products. Depending on the product, available options may include:
- Custom layouts
- Logos and graphics
- Custom fonts and typography
- One, two, or three PMS spot colors
- Full-color CMYK printing
- Numbering
- Back printing
- Bleeds
- Perforations
- Plate changes
- Custom finishing or binding options
A plate change may be required when one copy or section of a product must print differently from another and requires a separate printing plate.
Yes. Custom products require camera-ready artwork or a rough draft showing what you would like printed.
Camera-ready artwork can be uploaded during checkout or emailed to us. Our graphic team will review the file before production to make sure it is compatible with the selected product and printing method.
If you do not have finished artwork, you may submit a clearly labeled rough draft created in Word, Excel, or even as a scanned handwritten sketch. Our graphic department may also be able to prepare the artwork for you. Design fees may apply depending on the project and printing method.
Custom products offer extensive design flexibility, but some restrictions may still apply because of the physical product or printing process.
For example, certain carbonless forms require margins around the edges and may not support bleeds. Binding styles, envelope construction, paper stock, and other product specifications may also limit certain options.
Customization
Top 5 questionsYou may have found a product on our website that you wanted to customize and found yourself limited in the choices available. If that is the case, we can often create a custom product from scratch.
Reasons to order a custom product:
- 1) You would like to change one of the pre-designed forms on our website
- 2) You have your own artwork
- 3) Our pre-set products do not offer enough flexibility for what you would like to achieve
- 4) You would like more ink colors than our pre-set products offer
- 5) You would like to customize the area that is personalized on a pre-set product
What are the steps? Keep in mind that custom products are not necessarily more expensive than our pre-designed products.
We need to know at least three of the following before we can provide you with a quote:
- 1) The paper size of the final product
- 2) The ink color(s) to be used
- 3) The options needed (consecutive numbering, perforations, etc...)
- 4) The quantities needed
- 5) Whether you are looking for the closest match or the most cost-efficient option
Quote requests can be emailed to [email protected] and will be answered within 24-48 hours. Files may be attached if more precise information is required.
We provide FREE graphic design up to 3 distinct ink colors.
Extra Print Lines
Top 2 questionsInk Colors
Top 3 questionsCustom products can typically be printed in one, two, or three PMS spot colors, or in full color.
Spot colors are mixed individually and printed separately, so additional ink colors generally increase the cost of production. Black ink and reflex blue are typically the most economical spot-color options.
When using spot colors, specify the desired PMS color numbers in your artwork or order instructions.
Full-color artwork should be prepared using CMYK color values rather than PMS spot colors.
Layouts
Top 2 questionsPre-set products are designed with specific print areas and layout choices that cannot be freely changed.
This means products such as envelopes, business cards, forms, and other pre-set items must follow the layout options available for that specific product.
Depending on the item, you may be able to choose from several approved layouts, but elements such as text position, logo placement, alignment, and available print areas may still be restricted.
If the available layouts do not meet your needs, a custom product may be a better option because it allows much greater control over the overall layout and appearance.
